The Club wants to recognize individuals within our organization that have been instrumental in building the success of the hockey program within the community of La Broquerie. The members are nominated by the community/hockey organization, with the criteria that these individuals have made outstanding and extraordinary contributions to the development, advancement and promotion of hockey and include volunteers, coaches, managers, sponsors, and others. It is our way of giving the recognition they deserve and a thank you from our organization as a whole for their dedication and to the growth of our programs.
This year, we honor two inductees who have been instrumental in growing the female game of hockey.
The 2025/2026 Hall of Fame Inductees are: Louis Cote and Tracy Gromniski
LOUIS COTE
Louis is a face that is very well known throughout the sports community in La Broquerie. He wore the Habs jersey as a player for the senior Habs from 1987 to 1990 before leaving to Valley City North Dakota University for 4 years. When he returned, he returned to play for the Habs from 1994-2001 with (most notably) being the Captain for 5 seasons including the HTHL Championship season in 1999. In addition to lacing up the skates as a player, Louis transitioned to coaching Junior C for 3 seasons, making finals in 1995 and the championship seasons of 1996 and 1997. He than went on to coach the Senior Habs for 4 seasons making the finals in 2005, the CSHL Champs in 2006 and 2007 and bringing home the Provincial A Championship in 2007. From 2005 to 2019 he coached multiple levels of minor hockey in La Broquerie as his kids made their way through the minor hockey program.
Not only has he proudly worn the Habs Jersey on the ice and bench, he was a Chairperson of the 2009 Kraft Hockeyville Bid that put the community on the map on a National level as a finalist. He served on the Sports Club for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He played a lead role with Ken Tallaire in the La Broquerie Arena Expansion Committee in 2015 and has worked with many young hockey players to create long term goal planning whether it be playing college hockey, or just making a higher level team. His mentorship has proven invaluable to many young hockey players throughout the region.
When asked, Louis will tell you that he is most proud to have been a champion for female hockey within our association. He was an advocate for the development of female hockey in La Broquerie and has helped organize and coach female teams to great success. To note: The team created in 2010 for Provincial play went on to become La Broquerie’s 1st full season All Female team to join the Winnipeg league in 2012. Louis was a driving force in the creation and development of the Eastman Sharks U18AA team that continues today. Not only is he an advocate for female hockey, he is an advocate for seeing more female officiating presence within the hockey world, and that is a trend that is gaining great momentum.
TRACY GROMNISKI
Tracy has been a staple at the Habs arena for many many years. She has volunteered countless hours of her time to grow the game of hockey and grow hockey for our community as a whole and continues to volunteer her time and wisdom to ensuring that all our programs are successful.
Tracy served 15 years on the sports club in a variety of positions as Vice-President, Registrar, Treasurer and Female Rep. She co-managed canteen operations for multiple years, ran Provincials, organized golf tournaments and is always willing to step in and help when needed, but her most noticeable contributions that she has made to our hockey association is her love of grassroots female hockey.
Tracy was heavily involved with the Eastman Female Council and has been a very strong advocate for female hockey. Her dedication and passion to see girls’ hockey grow was a driving force to recruiting more female players in turn creating multi-community inclusive teams at low costs. She has invested hours with the Female Council in the creation of a female league, dual rostering, and giving more opportunities for our female players to play on all female teams and participate in Provincials. La Broquerie was the first Minor Hockey Association to host an all-female team in a co-ed league and that all female team came home with the league banner that year!! Her efforts have not gone unnoticed and has been a success as our association has been a leading association in hosting all female hockey teams.
We continue to lean on her for her knowledge and support. Her diplomatic approach to dealing with conflict and issues that arise are strengths that we all try and model, and it can’t go unsaid that there is a big reason she won the Hockey Manitoba Volunteer of The Year award in 2020. You left big shoes to fill when you decided to step down after 15 plus years on the Sports Club, and we want to recognize you for everything you have done for hockey in not only this association, but our region as a whole
